Got a call from an unknown number, threatening me in poorly worded English that the IRS was going to file suit against me and that I needed to call this number. I'm registering it so that anyone else who gets this call can look it up using the number they gave me.
I was initially alarmed when I received the call from Debbie Garner who claimed to be an IRS agent. She told me the IRS was instituting a suit against my husband and me for "numerical errors" in our tax returns for the years 2008-2012. This faux agent even gave me a case number! Her tune changed when I told her my husband is an attorney who is very familiar with tax laws as he worked for the IRS many years ago. When I realized this was a scam, I could not resist calling back ... I told the young man who answered that he and his fellow boiler room operators would be in prison in this lifetime and in hell in the next.
Pre-recorded message from IRS threatening lawsuit if I didn't call back. Called my number twice so far today. I was initially taken back but then someone told me that the IRS would NEVER call. They would send notices by mail first.
