I received a call at 10:05am and I am on the east coast from a Washington State number - which would be 7am their time. Message was cut off but same as other posters - call about case number and left the phone number.
Robo call from IRS. hahaha Much more sophisticated than the usual SE Asian male with a cell phone and phony name. I wish that this nonsense would stop.
I was called by 360-566-2212 claiming to be the IRS calling to sue me and to call back immediately, so I DID!!!!! The number they provided was 509-872-5226. I knew it was a scam, but my philosophy is if you can't beat em, join em. So I decided to call these A holes and see what they do. First of all every time you call them they'll answer but not say a word till you do. I guess this is to feel you out. I was surprised to hear an american sounding voice after I said hello claiming they were the IRS and first asked for my phone number, I assume because I called blocked. So I promptly gave it. And by that I mean I actually gave my local police departments phone number, LOL. Anyway after that they asked for my name, then date of birth. Then they'll explain you've somehow failed to pay back taxes which they are very vague about. I made it easy for them since I was screwing around and wanted to see how far i could get and waste their time. They then asked for a S.S. number. You'd think the IRS would already have that, but they didn't ;) So then they wanted my address which again I provided my local police's lol. At this point they stepped it up. Now they said they needed my bank account number and some other banking info. I actually went and got out my info because they knew I was starting to make it up since my #'s weren't correct. So I looked at my info and changed it around to convince them it was all legit, ha ha. Surprisingly enough after they had all of that they wanted more! Now these scumbags are asking for my credit card #. They not only wanted the #, but they went as far as to ask for the three digit security code on the back! NEVER GIVE ANYONE THAT NUMBER. But playing the part I did. Fake of course like everything I gave. Now I usually call them on their B.S. at this point but I decided to let them think this was all real info in the hopes they use it and possibly get caught by the bank or credit card company, cause let's face it, the Bank's more diligent than our government is. So I hung up with these [***] letting them think they got one. I also informed the police department I gave their # and address. They thanked me, sarcastically at first, but also said there's probably not much they could do. But would try to follow up if possible. So I may not have accomplished much more than wasting a half hour or so of their time, but its at least time their not scamming someone FOR REAL! If I or someone else were to really fall for this, they'd be homeless by dinner. Its really ashame people do this to others. I hope everyone's enjoyed this and maybe feel inspired to do the same. If everyone wasted these morons time, they might not be so inclined to troll the phone directories like this. Hopefully their mothers get taken by the very same scam they pull.
I got the same recording about the IRS filing a law suit against me, and I did call the number they gave to find out what that was all about. They tried to get me to go to Walmart to get a "money gram" right away. I told them that I don't believe this is how the IRS works. They would give us paper evidence, notification, and adequate time to resolve it. Not issue a warrant for arrest without any attempt to contact us prior. Definitely a scam.
Definitely a scam! Someone (robo call) from this number left me a message, claiming to be from the IRS, and saying that it was urgent that I call another number.
