This is a common ploy by criminals attempting to extort money from people by scaring you into believing that you will be criminally charged, go to jail, lose your driver’s license, have wages garnished, etc. all for an alleged or nonexistent debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

Had a voicemail message stating it was the legal department and they would come to my home and place of employment, once they found me I would forfeit my rights. I tried to call the # and it is in Rhode Island. I'm glad I read the posts on this # to find out it's a scam
I got a call two days ago from 412.346.1399 and then this morning from this 401.433.7979 they stated in the voicemail they are "pretrial processing" and I owe a debt that if I don't settle they will find me and then I forfeit rights to settle..etc. I reported the original number on the FCC website and opened a case. I will be doing that with this number as well.
Apparently this is a well known scam.. I have read several consumer websites stating so.
An actual Process Server is not going to have any conversation with you about any debt you owe, nor will they demand payment from you. If something like this happens, immediately call local law enforcement and make a full report including as much descriptive information as you can give them of the person impersonating a court officer.
I got the VERY SAME scenario - call from the 412 number a couple of days ago and then from the 401# yesterday. So glad this is something that is a scam and thank you 800Notes for having this forum! I have documented everything with dates and times and will be filing a complaint with my state DA's office! Coincidentally due to my work I have just completed the clearances process and (as expected) there are NO CRIMINAL COMPLAINTS on file for me under any name!
Your right total scam. I called and they answered. Told them not to call me anymore. My husband is In law enforcement and knows they are a scam. They hung up and asked me no questions. Lol. Total scam
