It is a credit card scam, thought I would talk to the live person and see what BS they were selling.
They asked me for my credit card number to check my status and when I asked them which credit card company they were with they told me some credit service company and when I asked which credit card company they represent, they told me all of them.
When I asked them if they work with the name of a defunct local bank, they told me they work with them all the time. When I mentioned they have been out of business for 3 years and they hung up.
Ha! These phone companies that we give our money to are actually selling our numbers! We've had our phone number since Friday the 24th and by Sunday evening the 26th, we were getting telemarketing calls and they were asking for us by name! We don't even know the number by heart yet and have so far only given it to our daughter. We have gotten 15 telemarketing calls in the last four days.
ROBO-CALL scam.
"this is heather from 'Account Services'. there is nothing wrong with your account but it is urgent that you contact us to lower your...."
Received a call from 406-931-3244 about 15 minutes ago. Was told I could get my interest rate lowered on my Mastercard/Visa...push "1" to talk to an "operator" or "2" to disconnect and pass up the offer. Out of curiosity, I pushed "1" and someone with a distinctive foreign accent (RED FLAG!) started talking about my account and it the balance was more than $3,000. I asked which account were they referring to, Mastercard or VISA as I don't have a Mastercard. They said either one. I said I had only a VISA and, yes, the balance was more than $3,000. Then they said they first number is "4", correct? I confirmed it was and then they said to confirm the correct account, I should read off the rest of the numbers of the account (BIG RED FLAG!!). I promptly informed them that I don't give out my credit card numbers over the phone to anyone as there are too many people getting scammed by doing so! Then I hung up. I might be old, but I ain't stupid, too!!
