i also keep getting calls and I told them it was a scam into getting credit card #'s and the woman hung up on me. Trying to get the charges reversed and she was a [***] with a capitol B
i had gotten a call a few days ago and they told me that if i done this survery thing they had they would send me a gold watch then called back tonight and told me they were also gonna send me some hunting books but they needed my credit card number to verify that i was over the age of 18 they were very nice people well i give it to them and they took 150 dollars boy was this a scam
I was told I would be sent a free watch and a free subscription to Cosmo for 2 years, however I was sent a bill for $50 instead. When I tried to call and cancel, the rep said that I could cancel but I was then sent a bill for $800!!! I just was duped into paying $305 to reduce the full payment. I don't know where to go from here. Any suggestions? This should be illegal, right?
I used to work there as well. Yes, We sold you magazines. It was what we were trained to do. The sales person you talk to in the beginning is not responsible for billing. It is the supervisor. We were only doing our jobs despite our personal feelings about what they do. It is only our job to read a script and make the sale. NOT BILLING. Please understand this when the people call you. It is not there fault if you get ripped off. It would be the supervisor.Sales people are only there to make the sale. We have no knowledge whatsoever about billing. And believe they hate calling you guys a billion times just as much as you hate getting called. They are on computer dialers that dial the numbers for them. The numbers chosen are picked by their manager. They told us that if you guys say you have no credit card that you're full of [***] because the numbers they have are only people who have either used their card online or over the phone within the last 30 days. I don't know if that's true. I just figured I would let you know how that place works. If you have any other questions that I can answer please respond to this and I will try my hardest to help in any way that I can. Thank you all. And I personally have called a ton of people myself and I personally am very sorry for all the harassing we have done. That is why I don't work there anymore. I have morals.
Countrywide Periodicals tried to call me today on my cell phone three times coming up as unavailable. I finally answered and a girl told me about the watch, the four magazines for 3.83 a week, for $16.60 a month. But I would have to pay $49.81 which would cover 3 months subscription but I would have to pay this MONTHLY for 16mos, but its for a 2yr subscription.
I told them I didnt want to give out my info over the phone but the could send me a statement with my magazine and I would pay it how I saw fit with a check, money order, online, etc.
They said they had to process this one payment of $49.81 and then next month I could pay how I want to.
I asked for their company name and phone number to call them back at a later time when I wasnt so distracted by my children. They wouldnt give me a number becuase it was a "secure line". The confirmation dept tried to reassure me by using my credit card it was safer and more secure then paying by check.
I told them then they did not have to process my order, right now I couldnt not make this decision.
I'm so glad I googled this and found this out!!!
Next time I wont be answering an "unavilable" phone call from them.
