Hi, Is your vehicle still available for sale? Text I got at 4:07 am.
Yes it is. It's in hartford sd. Where are you located at? Text I replied.
clean title?? Text they replied right away
I'm truck driver currently in Kentucky, I would like to know the present condition, what's the mileage? Are you the first owner of the vehicle? Do you have
text right after the above one.
Clean title. Where did you see it listed? My last text. Then I Googled the number and seen this all. I've got in the ad all info on the truck. Think I may do some playing with them!
Same here just got a text from someone named Steve who wrote the same things as above.....i won't deal with paypal, checks or wires ....only cashiers check or cash....too many scams out there.
Just posted on Cars.com last night and got text this morning from "Steve" asking about condition and then asking about final price. Thinking it was a dealer as I have it priced to sell knowing it needs fixed up and about 50% less then local dealers for similar (<$10,000 at dealer). Decided to look up number because it seemed odd. Has not mentioned military and so will see how this goes.
I got a text like that from "Steve" this morning. I told him I would only accept cash or a cashiers check that I witnessed being drawn from his account to me. And that if you want to buy the car we will meet at your bank so it's both safe and easy. I got no reply.
I don't think we have to be too afraid to sell a used car, just meet for test drives inside a police station, if they want it, meet at their bank. Only take cash-(if their check is good why don't they go cash it and give you cash?) Cashiers checks can be fake too. And if you deposit it, I hear it may take the bank a month to figure it out and they hold you responsible. Cashiers checks are fine if you are there to see it come from the bank teller. If its more money than you want to walk around with in cash, the buyers bank should write you a check so you can safely get to your bank.
How can we help other people from these scams when if they are reading this than they are already aware of it and its too late for others?
I say just go through the motions as if everyone is honest but stick to your guns. Meet at your local police station for test drives. Meet at their bank to buy it. Only take cash or a check that came from the teller at their bank.
Remember; when you are shopping for a car you wouldn't pay for one that you never saw. Neither would anyone else.
