Anyone who receives such a communication should immediately print out a copy of this thread and go to your local police station and make a report. If enough people do this, they can at least have a press conference notifying the community of the problem.
Received a call from this number yesterday Sunday about 7h00 pm. Guy says he is a paramedic and he found my cell number (yes this was on my cell phone) as a contact on a phone from a "person" who was involved in a major accident. His tone was very pressing and urgent. The guy is really good I have to say... Great actor ! My wife was out running errands at this time.
When I questioned of what happened, he asked me who he was talking to and that is when I knew it was a scam. I responded that since he called me, he should know who I am !!! Again his tone was very pressing as "this is an emergency, etc.". Then, he made a huge mistake of describing the car the "person" was driving, a 2008 black Nissan Altima. Not at all what my wife drives... Got you !
In the mean time, I had quickly dialed my wife cell number and she answered just as I was telling this guy that his scam was up and to go F himself. I did not even finished my phrase that he had hang up on me.
I immediately tried to call the number back. It is a cell phone with a voice mailbox that has not be set-up.
I am in the car business and sometimes I find ads (not always CL but on sites where one has to pay to advertise) for cars that I am interested in purchasing. Such was the case just last week. The phone number given in the ad never answers, most of the time the mailbox is full, or you just leave a message and no-one ever calls you back. No-one answers emails either when sent through the advertiser's site.
I strongly suspect this is how they gather phone numbers since very few people have my direct cell number.
This scam artist is not just ONE person, but multiple people. They speak Spanish and multiple men were saying multiple different names, specifically one named "Louis". My sister fell victim to this scam artist as they said I was the one in the accident and they were holding me hostage until they received $4,000 - they said they had my phone and if she called me, they would know and would kill me. They knew the car I drive and they knew where I worked. They asked for her to wire (via MoneyGram at Walmart) to somewhere in Georgia, which they said their "friend will pick it up since they are with me".
This is a horrible scam....horrible. My sister just wired all of her savings to these [***] and she just had a baby :(!!!
Called and falsely identified himself as a paramedic and told me that there was a serious accident and that my brother was in critical condition and lost a lot of blood and was being rushed to Florida Hospital but I needed to identify who it was first. Then claimed my brother hit his 16 yr. old son on a motorcycle and his friends came by and hit my brother in the head with a pistol and then said he has kidnapped him and my daughter unless I came up with $4000.00 dollars. He said not to call police or speak with anyone about this.
Caller said he was an EMT & my mother was bleeding to death and father was in critical condition. They hit another car and that driver wanted $4000 or they would execute my mom. Due to me pannicing, I ended up giving them my info, but they only received $96 due to my low bank account. I filled a police report after the incident. I tried to call a friend to get me though $$ they wanted but would not allow me to hand up or they would kill my mother.
these no good motherf?@kers called my wife and had her freaking out that I was in an accident, that I had run over an off duty EMT's son and they were torturing me and her son and would kill us if they did get 4,000.00. may you rot in hell you no good [***].
