Caller was probably from an offshore call center, said he wanted to send me a free white paper from HP on some type of data storage system. I'm not in IT, and the company is small, so I asked him to remove my name from his list. He hung up on me. I get at least two of these calls a week even after asking to be removed. If anybody from HP is listening -- this doesn't boost your image in my mind!
This guy called me claiming to be from Microsoft and provided my manager's name, said my manager had provided my name. Didn't know my actual job title and wanted to know what Help Desk software I used. Funny thing is, I actually work for Microsoft so the fact that he didn't have this information was strange to me. I got frustrated with him and hung up. Obviously not a truthful person. Hang up on these people!!!
He called and asked for my colleague and when I said I am not the one who he is looking for, he asked me whether I work for IT or not and when I said Security he hung up on me. When I tried calling back he was not accepting any calls.
Caller claimed that we retained a database through his company and that he needed to speak to the IT manager. When I told him I was it he started to request information about my contact info. I then proceeded to tell him that we have never dealt with the vendor he claimed association to and that I would be giving him no further information. Instantly the line went dead.
