Caller was probably from an offshore call center, said he wanted to send me a free white paper from HP on some type of data storage system. I'm not in IT, and the company is small, so I asked him to remove my name from his list. He hung up on me. I get at least two of these calls a week even after asking to be removed. If anybody from HP is listening -- this doesn't boost your image in my mind!
I've learned to just not answer calls if caller ID just shows the phone number. I google the number and wait to see if they leave a message. Ninety-nine out of a hundred, no message. The googled number usually gets me to a blog site like this one. When I used to answer these, they rarely were looking for me anyway. If someone leaves a message I will quickly call them back even if it were to tell them they had the wrong number.
Caller with a heavy Indian accent insisted he wanted to talk to our IT Manager, and then after, an administrator. I was finally able to get him to give his information - said he was from Dell and was calling about our printer security. He wanted my email address to send information. I told him not to call back and hung up on him!
