Caller was probably from an offshore call center, said he wanted to send me a free white paper from HP on some type of data storage system. I'm not in IT, and the company is small, so I asked him to remove my name from his list. He hung up on me. I get at least two of these calls a week even after asking to be removed. If anybody from HP is listening -- this doesn't boost your image in my mind!
Two calls today, one saying he was from Comcast and the other saying she was from Dell. Prior call a couple of weeks ago from same number said a third company. In all cases they want to send me a white paper. Not sure what the angle is. I asked both of today's callers why I was receiving calls from the same number claiming to be different companies, but they acted like they didn't quite get the question.
Received a call from a guy with a heavy Indian accent. So bad I could barely understand him. He started by getting me to confirm my email address so he could tell me about the dangers of down time. I told him I don't work for IT and hung up. He called back and let it roll to voice mail. Deleted that without listening to it too. If he calls back I will let corporate security deal with it. If it sounds, looks and smells like a scam it probably is.
Caller (who had an Indian accent) said they were from Dell and asked for an employee. Employee said they weren't expecting a call from Dell and to send to her voicemail. The caller said they wouldn't leave a message and would call back. Didn't seem like a legit Dell call and more like a scam.
This caller called himself Ron. Traits: Strong northern accent. He left a message asking for IT dept. then in the same breath asked for the marketing dept. He then, in frustration, said "you suck". I called back and a Magic-Jack (cheap phone) machine picked up.
