I got a call from these guys a few minutes ago, 10:20am PST. Note, this is to a personal cell phone that's even been registered with the do-not-call list (not that it's ever made a difference).
Same message everybody else is getting, they are offering to lower the interest rate on my account. I hit '1' to speak to somebody and asked specifically which card it was (I knew it was bogus, but I wanted to try to get info first, mostly so I could cancel the card if they actually had my info from the CC company). After asking, the guy paused for a second and responded "One of your major Visa or Mastercard carriers". I asked if he seriously intended not to tell me what card, then asked him to tell me what Bank he was working for, which he almost instantly hung up on me.
Common sense says that they are trying to qualify people for "low interest" credit cards...which means a low introductory APR that lasts 6 months then skyrockets.
I called back and hit the menu option to be taken off of their calling list. I doubt it will help, but I do have both conversations recorded, so if they call back and I'm bored enough, maybe I'll file a harassment charge.
Received a call from 408-651-8176 with name "Camp Patrick" on the ID. Having a son in the military, I answered, though I had never heard of "Camp Patrick." I pushed "1" to speak to the individual, who after some prodding identified himself as "Jerry Montenegro." Suspicious of a scam, I look up Jerry's name and saw that this individual was actually using the name of an enlisted individual in the military who has a website with the same name....Talk about "using people!" Proceeded to try to get me to "VERIFY" my information to "lower credit card interest" saying that Experian sends out robocall numbers of people who pay bills on time (doubt that, too!) He did not get ANYTHING from me except my first name...he even wanted to verify my telephone number! I asked for a number to call him back, which he gave me a "877" that did not correspond to the called ID. Oh yeh, when I asked WHO was "Camp Patrick" he said he was a "FAMOUS motivational speaker" who advertises for them!!!
I returned the call, and was given the option to not receive notifications of any further "special offers. I did not press "1" to choose this opt-out and everything was silent.
