We've been getting calls from this number 409-684-2264 lately; the past month or two. Sometimes the calls are from a different number, area code and caller ID; ie. "Consumer Asst., Out-of-Area, Ohio" etc. but they are basically all part of the same scam; to coerce you, convince you, threaten you into giving them your personal info. they can use to steal as much from you as they can. Your best protection is to get a call blocker installed on your line and never, ever answer their calls. We've been blocking these calls for over 2 years now and they are finally slowing down to one every other day or two or a couple per week. Our call blocker rings once and then cuts them off every call after that indicating their call has been blocked. When they call from a new number (and they do change quite often) we block that number also. Out phone holds the 30 calls that have last called us. We used to record 15 of those calls as scam calls; now we're down to about 7-8 out of 30. I believe the call blocker devices do work. They must be figuring out that when they call us they will be blocked and eventually they just quit calling.
Normally I don't answer these but I was expecting a call and didn't have my glasses on to see who was calling. I said hello and after a second a recorded voice said "good-bye." They must have a faulty robocall system. Either that or they are tired of me screaming their ears off.
No that is not what they want, they want a sucker. Not answering just tells them you are not the person they are looking for. There business model depends on quick disqualification of people. Very few people will fall for the scam , and they have to work fast to sift out those few who will bite. Do your fellow man a favor and waste their time.
Ya know... what I don't understand is why these ****heads are so stupid that they give themselves a caller ID that just about screams " scammer calling" or "spoofed number." Anything with names like consumer advocate, consumer aid, consumer assist, life line, life alert, med life, auto care, info survey, bankcard, toll free, security system, sun west, senior aid, senior help, senior life, or any number that comes up as unknown name and number... Are they that stoopid, or do they think *we* are? I seem to be getting a spate of these calls this week, after a long time with hardly any. Maybe it's the weather, or phase of the moon? Just kidding. It is so tempting to toy with them, but that will only make things worse. Best to check the caller ID, listen to your call screening feature as they speak, and do not pick up... then come here to see if there are othrrs saying it is a scam call. Most scam calls hang up during the first four rings, at most.
