I received a call from this "Police" organization. We had this about a year ago from a similar group. Once we received their mailing we tried to follow up by going to their website to check it out. It seemed official looking, but was actually a copy of a real police website. I left a message on their website and I got a strangely worded email from someone's cell phone saying that it was a "legit" group. I took the papers into the police station. They told me that police/sheriff groups do not solicit by telephone, but they were not interested in following up. They just told me to not be fooled by those types of calls.
I told this man that and to remove me from their list.
THIS PERSON SAID THEY WERE FROM PG&E, I SAID I CANNOT TALK CAUSE I WAS DRIVING TRUCK. THAT WAS ON MY CELL PHONE THEN MY HOME PHONE SHOWS THE SAME NUMBER, VERY ODD AND SCARY.
I received a call from this number.... at first i questioned the orginization but i later found out that the orginization is a non-profit charity and thats how they get around the do not call list. I guess non- profits that dont use professional fund raising firms are exempt. i called the number back and left a message for a return call. a gentleman called me back the next day and answered all my questions including why they hang up on people when they call. it turns out they have an automatic dialer that on occasion drops calls. he also assured me i would be taken off the list. i live in rancho sante fe.
