Steve,
They're all correct. It is from Craigslist, I'll tell you exactly what happened.
C-list changed their policies on posting multiple ads from the same account.
Many power users who post 100+ ads a day therefore must have multiple accts.
Now C.list requires each account to be phone verified.
Meaning you need a verification # sent by c.list to your phone to activate each acct.
Google: 'Craigslist PVA's' see what I mean
You'll see dedicated websites selling PVA's for $6-$13 each.
C-list says 1 posting per acct per 48 hrs, and no cross posting to multiple cities.
So imagine those power users need lot of phone #'s for cheap,
and this verification # he was hoping you'd pass along to him.
Power users even change their IP address, use proxies, to get around the rules.
I fell for this stupid scam. I didn't even think about it until the person never called me back to give me the address of where I can pick up my item. "She" had me enter my phone number on clphonesafe. Then it called me and gave me a code. I then (again, stupidly) put my code in the website. My cell phone company says that they usually charge people $9.99 a month. If it shows up on my bill, they will give me a number to call to opt out of it. So far it sounds like they just want to use your number. No charges have showed up on my bill yet, but I just did a couple days ago.
I have posted ads on Craigslist before and NEVER had a call from them to verify my phone number. I get the feeling that people positing it is legit and from Craiglist, work for this scam place and are trying to get people to fall for it.
I got a call from this number on my land line and I have never used or viewed Craig's list so I think you are all wrong! It came from California, Belview or something like that, I've deleted it so I can't remember.
