Steve,
They're all correct. It is from Craigslist, I'll tell you exactly what happened.
C-list changed their policies on posting multiple ads from the same account.
Many power users who post 100+ ads a day therefore must have multiple accts.
Now C.list requires each account to be phone verified.
Meaning you need a verification # sent by c.list to your phone to activate each acct.
Google: 'Craigslist PVA's' see what I mean
You'll see dedicated websites selling PVA's for $6-$13 each.
C-list says 1 posting per acct per 48 hrs, and no cross posting to multiple cities.
So imagine those power users need lot of phone #'s for cheap,
and this verification # he was hoping you'd pass along to him.
Power users even change their IP address, use proxies, to get around the rules.
I just put an ad in Craigslist and agree with Jay. This is a validation phone number; they give you a code to input in your craigslist ad to verify who you are, ie: not a scammer. Too bad there's so many folks out there trying to be dishonest or deceptive.
This is a SCAM. This guy called my store and said he was from corporate and that we were going to get a shipment of hats and shirts tomorrow and we would need a code to give them. Then he needed a cell phone to send a text to.
They are trying to get something falsely verified by using the unwitting employees at my stores. This is not in relation to any thing that I legitimately have on Craigslist or anything like that.
I got a call telling me that they are from health dept, and there will be 2 inspectors coming to inspect my restaurant tommorrow at 2 p.m. one from NYS and one from NYC, and he wanted my phone nos, and they said somebody will send me a approval code that I should give it to them right away. they went thru my 9 nos. and i got them 7 approval codes. The guy that call have a heavy Indian accent and can't even spell Danny right, he told me his name is Mark Anthony,
I think there should be law to punish this type of calls.
Hi. The washer and dryer I am giving away both work fine and are in good condition. I need to get rid of them by this coming weekend at the latest (I don't have room in the UHaul for them). You'll need to come get them if you want them.
However I ended up getting about 20 emails for the washer & dryer I am giving away, so I'm going to try and give everyone who has emailed so far a chance at this. I actually work for CraigsList and we have a phone code system which I can use for this. If you are still interested, here is how it will work.
Reply to this email and leave me a phone number (with area code) that you can be reached at. Let me know if you would rather get text message or a phone call. Shortly afterwards you will get a text message or an automated phone call from CraigsList which will give you a 4 or 5 digit code.
After you get it, immediately email me back with the code they gave you and your full phone number again. (Your code needs to be checked within 20 minutes after you get it or it expires and can not be used.)
I'll check everyone's codes and the person who received the correct one will be declared the winner. I'll email them and set up a time that they can come pick up the washer and dryer.
PS: When you get the automated call or text message, it'll say not to give your code out to anyone because of scams, etc. Simply disregard that message for this. That's meant to help protect someone's account info when they sign up for a free Craigslist account. Here we are just using the system to generate codes for this giveaway, and not actually signing up for an account.
PS: You can try to get the winning code as many times as you want. However you have to use a different phone number each time in order to get an additional code. It's just the way our phone system is set up.
