Caller claimed to be an investigative agent with the IRS when they asked for my name I stated that if they were the IRS calling me that they should have my name. The "agent" then hung up on me.
Recieved a recorded message that it was from the it's and to not disregard as action would be brought against me. I called back already thinking this was strange and it went to vm. I hung up and googled the number. Looks like a scam.
Recorded call from Agent Julie Smith at IRS. This is a total scam. They have called me 2x in 3 hrs. Google this number and you will find so many references to the same call and the same number. These people must be either total idiots or playing the law of large numbers -- somebody will bite. The IRS never calls like this. There is a process which usually starts with a letter and the tax payer is allowed to present their side of the story. Please hang up and do not return their calls.
Part 2: BTW, this phone number belongs to a company called Magic Jack. This allows the scammers to use VOIP (Voice over Internet) and make inexpensive calls to the US and Canada. $5 says that it is some boiler room in some god forsaken country where the loser citizens are trying to make money the easy way instead of working for a living.
