NEVER, EVER believe ANYTHING on these calls...especially automated ones. Do not give out any personal info, bank info, credit card info etc. Tell your children, your parents especially elderly parents and any seniors you may know to do the same! Don't be a victim!
I DID AND IT WAS PRETTY SCARY AND CONVINCING DUE TO MY PERSONAL SITUATION. 99% OF ME THOUGHT IT WAS A SCAM, BUT HAD A SMALL DOUBT. THEY WANTED $1000 FROM ME TODAY. LUCKILY I THOUGHT TO JUST TYPE THE PHONE NUMBER IN TO SEARCH ON COMPUTER AND LOW AND BEHOLD THESE SITES APPEAR WITH MANY FOLKS SAYING IT'S A SCAM. THANKS TO ALL. I'M REALLY NOT USUALLY GULLIBLE, BUT IN WAYS IT 'SEEMED' QUITE REAL. I CAN RELAX NOW.
My mother received 3 calls from this "Julie Smith" robovoice. Same details as others have posted. Each message gets a little more threatening. I called the number and a Pakistani man answered "Hello" (really? would the IRS answer that way??) and I asked for Julie Smith (who was not available, of course). He asked of I had a message for her and I said "Yes, stop calling people with your scamming bull*h*t" and then he asked for my name and #. I hung up on him.
Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
