NEVER, EVER believe ANYTHING on these calls...especially automated ones. Do not give out any personal info, bank info, credit card info etc. Tell your children, your parents especially elderly parents and any seniors you may know to do the same! Don't be a victim!
Received two calls today and recorded message was left on my vm from Julie Smith saying there was an IRS judgment against me. Called back and someone with a heavy Indian/Pakistani accent answered the phone. Insisted that I owe money to the IRS and that I have to pay immediately. Asked for further information since we always stay on top of our taxes. Lady was hesitant but said i would go to jail due to money owed. Then proceeded to read the affidavit stating I would get arrested if I don't pay, have property taken, ruin my credit, etc. Siunded scary but i knew it was a scam. Then i asked for proof of this and she claimed two notices were mailed to my house but no one was home. Told her to send a certified mail and she hung up. Folks, this is a major scam. Pls spread the word, especially to people that are vulnerable to scams. IRS will always send a certified letter with a case officer and a case number. Don't fall for the scam.
Just got two calls from this number. The first was a computer generated message saying it was an extremely urgent matter regarding past taxes with the IRS. When I called the number I got a woman who claimed to be with the IRS and had a very strong Indian or Pakistani accent. She claimed there was a discrepancy with what I paid and tax records and that I owed a significant amount of money. When I asked why I hadn't been notified in writing, she said that two certified letters had been sent but no one was home to sign for them. At this point, I figured this wasn't legit. When I questioned her--told her this sounded like a scam, she got pretty testy and said that they would be issuing a warrant for my arrest and then hung up. I will definitely report this. It's concerning though because they had my name, address, and phone number.
received a voicemail with the number stated. Message exactly as written in the notes you all have sent! Some officer female stating this is IRS and to take action before I am arrested.
It is November 8 and so far no written correspondence from IRS for previous tax year and I pay my taxes diligently!
Thank you everyone for re assuring me this is a scam, as I know that IRS always sends written notices about taxes owed or audits, never a phone call, as I understand.
Just received same digitized message. When I returned call, he barely spoke English. Had my first name wrong but right address. Claimed 2 certified letters sent, get an attorney, sheriff will he here to arrest me, blah, blah. Glad I checked this out. While I know I owe nothing, good to know it wasn't ID theft or something.
