I am a Chartered Accountant and there is no such thing as "ligit telemarketers that work under Revenue Canada".
CRA does not authorize any body, even Chartered Accounting firms, to call people for anything such as audits or tax reviews.
The only time Revenue Canada will contact you is when they want to verify your claims on your tax return such as tuition fees, medical expenses, child care expenses and the like. And they will send you an official letter via Canada Post, not by phone calls nor by e-mails.
The only way you can get any Collection Agency to stop calling you if you are not the person they are trying to reach is 1/ answer the call and find out who they are calling or looking to locate.
2/ tell them that your phone number is not the number of the person they are looking for. You don't have to tell them who you are, what your relation is the this person (if there is one) and if they want any further information then they can put their skip tracers to work because you don't get paid to do their job for them.
3/ ask them which company they represent and their address
4/ take the time to write a short message telling them you are advising them again, in writing, that this person they are trying to reach does not reside with you, this is not their number and you want ALL calls to cease as of the date of this letter. Make sure you send the letter by registered mail.
By law under the Collections Agencies Act, they can never call you again. Period. If they do you can lodge a formal complaint, but trust me, they know better.
They came to my house & my parents let them in to check the water tank, they said has to change because it is 5 yrs already, next day guy called to confirm somebody at home they will come to change the the tank, lucky I picked up the phone & told them we DO NOT want to change, guy kept telling me how big and how good their company, i was angry asked him how to get my info, he said paid some money to BELL company buy it, I was even more mad why the bell can sell customer's information to other peoples? ？？WTF.... If so where and how to complain to Bell ???
I got a call from 416-477-2019, a female called requesting me, and then said i applied a couple days ago and they were pleased to bring me in for an interview. I am like what? I do not recall applying for a job with consumer ontario. She couldnt give me a clear answer on the position I applied for, and said she would leave me an email with a time for tomorrow interview and hung up. Very odd call lol.
