Since there is not an option to edit, here I come again. I posted earlier, three replies up, and forgot these details.
When I took it to my bank rep, earlier, she said the checks are most likely stolen.
The envelope was a plain white, letter size with no return address on it. The postage stamp was from Canada.
I have also e-mailed the Dallas and Houston area FBI, and referred them to this site. Tomorrow I will take my copy of the letter and check to the postmaster.
hello, i received the same type check with the same indications, i did call the number to hear for myself, the individual indicated that the check is good, after it clears i would need to submit approx. $3200.00 to receive the balance, it is apparent that this situation is a scam, i am tempted to deposit the check but without using the funds to see if by chance it does clear, still undecided on that, i called peoples credit union and they are aware of the matter, they did indicate that the check is not authorized and that i could possibly deposit it but eventually the check would be returned without payment to my bank, and the if i did utilize it or a portion thereof i would ultimately have to return the money, the letter indicated a total of 5 winners, according to this site there is more than that right now, and i am sure that every one who received this letter and check has not responded to this site, so it is apparent that this matter is a scam, sincerely schyck
Just got my letter today. About as good as the promises from the Obama administration and just as financially dangerous. THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE LETTER.
My check drawn on account from The People's Federal Credit Union out of Amarillo Texas for $3985.00
These types of scams are well know to law enforcement...I should know I are one. The dirtbags behind this will attempt to get you to send them money to release the balance or obtain your bank account information. BEWARE!
Put it to good use...start a fire with it, make a paper airplane...thats all the check is good for. And most definitely contact your local postmaster or the FBI.
Unfortunately there will be a lot of well meaning people sucked it to this.
hey guy's me too. i received mine today 3/23/09. my wife opened the mail and showed it to me. I knew it was a fake. but it looked so real. the check that is.i called the number. the recording said mail box full no more messages. anyway i feel sorry for my wife as she thought that it was real. startewd making plans fir the money. people who do this should be held accountable. i wouyld like to play along with this and see if we could catch them. any one have any idea's let me know. i seen on t.v. i think date line they went along with them and meet up with the people who ofcourse ran after they found out they were busted.
