I also received an awards letter from L & F Insurance and Financial Services Inc. 105 West 95th Street Suite 2110, Overland Park, KS 66710 dated March 19th 2009. I am definitely turning this over to the FBI as well. I went to my bank to have them look at the cashiers check and read the letter and I was informed that this is a scam and that other people in my area have received similar "Winnings". The sad thing is that some folks deposit these fake cashier's checks and then turn around without waiting for them to clear(which they never will) and send the security deposit fee, then they are out their own money with NO winnings. The phone number that I was directed to call is 1-619-428-6934 ext 402. It goes into the L & F Insurance and Financial Services Inc call center and then is answered by someone in Ontario, Canada. The letter says that Robert's Personnel Services is the guarantor and supported by the federal authority and jurisdiction of the American Government. It says that they insist I keep my account confidential until I have been paid in full and RPS holds the exclusive right to terminate any claim based on breach of this security protocol. I hope they are caught in their scam!
I found out by calling the bank that the bogus check was written on that the FBI has beeninvestigating this scam about 6 months now. Call the bank that the cashier's check is written against and then fax them or mail a copy. They will turn it over to the FBI.
I have received today a check and a letter from Mills Consumer Solutions Inc. with the address, 3060 Eggers Avenue, Cleveland,OH 44105. But, this phone number is different then above. The Number on my letter is 1-416-856-0197. And then the company name on the check is ArcelorMittal Cleveland Inc.. And the name of the bank is JPMorgan Chase Bank,N.A, Columbus,OH AND Signed by a Joan Green. And the rest is the same as what the rest of you said.
I received the same letter and check in the mail today. I had the same suspicions with all of the different locations and address; OH, Canada, Texas. A plain white envelope from the dollar store. Seriously!
