After *57. It will send information to perpetrators and you can file FOR FREE an open case with your local police department for investigation. It is refered to FBI and FCC. Take the time folks. Do the research. Report and Warn. The current laws are rediculous and should be changed, as well as enforcement and penalties. But that is another story.
The best way I know of to stop them is to talk to them. Yep...that's right...talk to them.
I talk to them because no matter what you do they will not stop calling. I figure if I have the time I answer the call and get to a real person and I then keep them on the line for as long as I can. I've had them on for almost 30 minutes before but normally I can only keep them on for 10 minutes or so. I do this because if they are talking to me they will never make a dime and it is one less scumbag that can scam someone else. The reason they 'hang up' is not because they don't want to talk to you but it's because there is not a real person to talk to at that moment and hopefully it's because one of them is talking to me :-)
Sure it won't stop the autodialer but if I waste enough of the real scumbags time then maybe they'll stop making any kind of money at all and they'll have to find a real job...or crawl under a rock and disappear for all I care.
They "got thru" because they, like other fraudulant companies, do not comply with the DO-NOT-CALL list. They don't bother to get a copy and purge our numbers because they DO NOT CARE. They figure they won't get caught, and if they do, they simply say, "We give the called party the option of pressing 4 to have their number removed from our database, so we are complying".
BS. They are deliberately flouting the law. They called me yesterday and I filed a complaint today by searching for DO-NOT-CALL complaint using Google. I gave the details of the call, including the number (I love caller-ID) and the time and the exact nature of the automated call (seems there is a special problem with these automated calls) and asked for an investigation. Please, everyone, do the same. Let's get the laws enforced. If there are no complaints, there will be no action. Be specific, don't rant, give facts. Let's drive these parasites off the phone and out of our lives.
File a complaint EVERY TIME you receive another call from these criminals. The more we complain, the more incentive there is for enforcement. This particular calling number is very offensive because of the deceptive nature of the name of the caller SERVICE DEPT. How carefully did they choose THAT fraudulant name??? However, I have received other, equally fraudulant calls from other equally deceptive names. Callers like these are deliberately violating the law. Let's do our part to remove them from our telephones and our lives.
