My recently widowed aunt just recieved a call from these people claiming they are the irs. She loaded $800 onto a greendot credit card and was told she needed to get another $1200 by tomorrow or she would be arrested and her property would be siezed. Because she hasn't paid taxes for the last few years she fell for this scam. We are currently in the process of trying to get her money back and reporting them to the IRS phishing department. According to google the telephone number belongs to 01 Communications out of Cottonwood California.
Thanks for posting the warning. I recieved exactly the same call, from an Indian woman. They tried to lure me into confirming my address and other information. I did not give any information out.
Thank goodness I check this message board! My husband got 2 calls last week from this same number, same Indian accent with a man saying he was Michael Johnson!! This crap ticks me off!!! I about had a panic attack wondering why the IRS was contacting my husband and why we had not recieved anything by mail!
husband got a call from Michael Johnson who claimed to be an IRS investigator. I am having some issues with the IRS, and I have a tax resolution firm working on the situation, so my husband took the number but gave them no info. when he told me about the call, I said that with the people having my POA, that the IRS has no right to contact me at all. Then he said that it was hard to understand the person, they did not sound very professional. So I appreciate all you folks giving the info to confirm that this is a scam of some sort.
I received a call today from 530-377-6497. The caller identified himself only as “I am from the IRS”. I asked him what IRS stood for and he said the “Internal Revenue Service division”. Sounded Pakistani or Iraqi or a similar “accent”. Insisted his job was to give me a phone number and name to call back regard a tax issue. I began giggling. I offered him the name and number of my accountant. He would not take it. By this time, I was laughing, knowing it was a hoax. Yeah, right, the IRS is going to call me on a SUNDAY, and refuse to call the tax preparer. I hung up. A scam.
