Living in the suburbs of Paris, today on the 20th of Fev. I received in the morning at 9 42 a call from this number. She just asked me if was speaking english, I said yes, but as she said she was Marina with a russian-sounding name, I asked her twice whether she was speaking russian, because I'm bilingual translator, then she hung up.
Same computer thing for me - I hung up, then the same guy called from 626-445-9137 and yelled at me for hanging up on him...I told him that I worked in IT and wasn't interested in his scams and he called me a liar...so I told him to never call me again and hung up...a little worried that he knew my name though!
Same message. Called, knew my name, said they were receiving reports that we had really bad viruses, and she wanted me to access my computer. I tolld her I couldnt until next week, and the woman was very upset and told me that if our computer problems got too bad then they wouldn't be able to help us. I told her to call the next afternoon, and she didn't. I knew it sounded too fishy.
My 18 year old son has had his phone and phone number for about 5 weeks. He got a call from this number today. I'd already explained to him about random scam callers and to not answer any call that was identifiable or familiar to him. So, he didn't. I wrote the number and Googled, finding this message board. And......I was right. I called the number myself from my phone, got the "oh-so-familiar" tone as if it was a disconnected number, but then the recorded message says "I'm sorry, this number is not is service at this time." WHAT? He got this call about 2 hours ago, and all of sudden the number is not in service. Perm or temp....why do phone companies allow that option, and/or how is there any alternative to not having full time service unless you disconnect perm? Forwarding....ok. Out of office....ok. Voicemail.....ok. But, "not in service at this time"?????? REALLY? Can our politicians and government, and the phone company itself, not have tighter regulation and supervision on these things? There is no telling how many people fall for this scam (and others) due to their age(senior citizens) or lack of experience (teens, young adults). Just another additive (no matter how small) to the personal debt crisis of individuals, those who are blindly trusting others that are posing as concerned individuals regarding our welfare, economical, or technological best interests, only to find a way into our personal lives and pockets, whether it's to steal our personal information or spread computer viruses.....which the latter only leads to the increase in sales for virus programs and computer monitoring programs, and/or new computers, hard drives because they have crashed. Fleecing of America.
Said he was receiving error message from my computer, I was online at the time so was my wife but he then went on to say it was a windows7 error which neither computers are, when I said that he asked what computer system we used, I replied you are the one who is monitoring my private PC you tell me!
