Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

They left me a recording (like a computer recording) that they are an investigtor from an audit and investigation division for the law office. At first my heart skipped a beat but if I was truely being investigated for something Im pretty sure (A) it would be a live person (B) They wouldn't say they were an ivestigator and (C) I'd have some clue that I did something. oh and (D) Its hard to investigate something 4 states away. *delete*

The Law Office of Daniel Slane takes a highly focused and aggressive approach to collections" They have an F from the BBB. My guess is they are bottom feeders for old inactive debt that may or may not be owed.
