Thanks for making a formal report. Even though this bottom feeder continues to call anyway, they DO get fined over and over again.
Glad to see the population getting smarter about so-called "debt collectors". They are not legitimate.
By the way, I have already told Portfolio Recovery several times that I will never pay them even one penny. They know this. If they want to keep their new-hires busy with making useless calls, I can ignore those calls as easily as they can make them.
PRA tries to get blood out of turnips or stones. Cease and desist letter might be effective. At least for awhile. Call blocking doesn't work that well since they call from thousands of different numbers.
If they call you, demand a debt validation letter be sent to you by US mail. E-mail no good.
Cease and desist letter should follow if they don't leave you alone.
I think federal licensing of debt collectors who wish to collect across state lines is the answer.
The problem here is that they often call the wrong people, persist in calling despite being informed not to, and often times have bought debts that have been DISCHARGED...meaning the original creditors are no longer trying to collect on it and therefore the person in question is no longer obligated to pay. While I'm no advocate for being a dead beat, harrassment is still illegal, as is trying to enforce a debt that has no validity.
