Feeling stupid
Well Nick Johnson is using a new number!! It's (646) 583 2973 he even had  someone call from my local police number! So he got me for 350.00, I got to thinking about it so I called the number back and sure enough it was my local police dept but there was no Officer Scott Tisdale in Cape Girardeau city police dept so I had been scanned!! Now I have to take to them and give a statement to what happened. This guy is good he had me truly upset so I panicked and paid even tho I hadn't take one out but he said he had proof and it was an online loan, then when the so-called officer called I complied, not wanting to go to jail of course til I could get it all sorted out!! Now after investigation of my own I feel stupid!!

Debt is civil, not criminal, so you cannot be arrested and/or jailed if you default on a loan.  Nor is law enforcement in the business of debt collection.  If you paid this scammer via debit/credit card, alert your card issuer ASAP and file a fraud report!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

Mike
You wouldn't have gone to jail-- they would have take you to debtor's prison, where you would have had to admit your obligation, and then either pay what you owe, or work it off at 5 dollars a day in the work fields.

Debtors prisons were outlawed many many years ago.

Do you possibly work for the scammers themselves?
