These callers sometimes spoof your local police station and have a supposed "policeman" call you and demand that you pay the scammer.
Being in debt is not a crime. Period.
Local police are never involved in ordinary civil debts.
We do not have debtors prisons in the US and haven't had them since the 1830s!
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.

I received a call supposedly from the DuPage County Sheriff's office. I did not call the 646-658-3162 # I was told to call back instead I called the DuPage County Sheriff's office and spoke to an officer-I asked about the badge # the man left and I was told they do not have badges with #'s like that. The officer told me it was a scam and to ignore the call. The officer did take the number I was told to call back and the person's name I was to ask for so we will see. One last piece of info-spoke very broken english which I thought was weird for an officer not to speak better english.
Got a cammed call saying that they will issue an warrant out for my arrest if I don't call them back. the call was from a state that I didn't live in nor did they state which office they were calling from.
