This is a scam. They said they were a law office and I would go to jail if I didn't send them money by western union. My lawyer confirmed it is a scam and I have reported them to the ftc. I am waiting to hear back from the state attorney generals office.
Its a scam I had the same crap from these worthless [***]. I was freaking out because I thought surely I would have seen this come up on my credit report or i would of atleast remembered taking out a online payday loan!!
If you were the subject of a pending law suit, you'd have received a letter from the attorney for the other side. You'd have a paper trail. You would not first have heard about a civil lawsuit by cold call from a scammery-scummery debt collector who immediately demands money. Ignore these type of calls and block them. Debt collectors are not generally licensed to practice law and attorneys initiate contact by mail. This is for the purpose of maintaining a paper trail for their own purposes.
These debt scammers do NOT go to court. Do not let them threaten you and do not fall victim to their empty threats. Make a report to whoever sold you the financial instruments to pay them. Never let these phony lawsuit threats get the best of you. Always demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
You should go back to your local police or law enforcement and make a fraud or extortion complaint. These scammers are most likely located overseas. At the very least the police can notify the community and perhaps the media.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
Total scam. Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you CAN NOT be arrested for it. We do not have debtors prisons in the US. Ignore and block these calls.
Report them:
