This is a scam. They said they were a law office and I would go to jail if I didn't send them money by western union. My lawyer confirmed it is a scam and I have reported them to the ftc. I am waiting to hear back from the state attorney generals office.
The caller is/was nothing less than a SCAMMER. For further information, please see "scambaiter 419" on YouTube. "419" is the Nigerian Penal Code number for doing scams, but no Nigerians are normally prosecuted. Those who normally call are Indians from the country of India, Asia minor, and WHENEVER THEY CALL OUT ARE 100% SCAMS/SCAMMERS from U.S.Government Grants to pre-approved for an online loan. They'll lie pretending that you owe something convincing you to immediately send them money by Western Union/Money Gram/pre-paid card of some type or brand usually the Vanilla Card or other brand. PLEASE, PLEASE, AND PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM MONEY FOR ANYTHING-IT IS 100% A SCAM AND WHATEVER PROMISE MADE IS A LIE no matter what is promised, you'll NEVER get it!!! I'll send you $15,750,000.00 for a $350.00 fee in advance by Western Union TODAY, ok? (DON'T, I'm JOKING...).
Received same message. Paid them a partial payment they requested. Called the police dept to verify if it was a scam. Found this website and confirmed that. Glad info has been shared. Don't fall for this. I have learned a lesson.
If you paid by debit or credit card file an immediate fraud dispute. The other problem is that now that you paid them so readily, they will call you some more and sell your name to other criminals. That is how extortion works.
Here's the deal. I'm a paralegal who works at an attorney's office. I got the same call that everyone else here at describing and I actually spoke to the Steve Knox person. I try to find a Web the allegations were against me, in which he was able to tell me. Here's work it's humorous. I asked him if he was an attorney, he said yes. I asked him what his bar number was (all attorneys have Bar numbers). He told me that was confidential and private information that he was not gonna give it to her over the phone. That's [***]. Bar numbers are complete public record. I also asked him how long he been practicing a law and would she throw a number at me. I asked him why he had never sent anything in writing; hardcopy documents in the mail to me. He kept telling me that I will be in contact with my attorney generals office. As soon as I told her I was a paralegal that worked in a law office and I called his bluff he hung up I called back and spoke to him again telling him that if I find out if this is a scam I'm going to countersue him and his company and expose the procedure. He hung up again.
actually think that we will believe you are a paralegal when you can form a coherent sentence, you can't decide whether the person you were talking to was a he or a she, and you don't know the proper terminology for a lawsuit against them?
