beligerent nasty collectors representing themselves as lawyers and paralegals and barely speak english, supposedly from Irvine, CA but most likely from Mumbai.
I got a call from a 0000 phone number here @ my work and also at my home. It was an indian person who called that I could barely understand what he was trying to say. When he called me @ work he told me that I was prime suspect but didn't say for what, then he said he was going to transfer me to another dept but then when the other person came on it was very very choppy and I ended up hanging up. This person also called my home and told me to call back this phone number and said IF I didn't do it with in certain time that he wished me luck. I was very bothered by the call and still have the message on my phone. What am I to do if I keep getting calls from this person?
I keep receiving these mysterious calls from someone with a heavy foreign accent (either Indian or Middle Eastern). The names they use are either Justin Black or Barry Black. The ph # on my caller id is never a valid or working # once I try to redial it? The man has left voicemails asking me or my retained attorney to call back a different # as the matter is extremely time-sensitive. Apparently they want me to believe that I am being sued by some company that I owe money to; most often a payday loan. The first time I was contacted, the man claimed he worked for a federal fraud devision and he told me that I had defaulted on a payday loan and had committed check fraud. The company name he gave me actually exists but when I called them and inquired about the supposed money, I was told (as I already knew) that there wasn't any loan in my name with their company. This situation is very troubling since he knew alot of my personal info (full name, social sec #, bank acct #). I have already reported this info to the local branch of the FBI, the Ohio state attorney general's office and the Chamber of Commerce and was advised to place a fraud alert on my credit report, I also alerted my local bank branch. Since receiving these calls I am much more aware of the danger of online purchasing and applying for credit cards, etc can place on your privacy and security. My sister has been started receiving similiar calls, as well and they've even threatend that she would be arrested soon for non-payment of written checks to a loan company. They even called her @ work! I am so sick and tired of people infringing upon our rights and getting away with it, but what can we do?
Seriously.. look at how many complaints there are?! Why is this still happening?
This had been off and on in my life for 1+ years now... where is our government that is protecting us? I have reported several places, several times...
I believe the next step is to change my phone number.
