I also received an automated call asking me to call 877-828-5743, and they gave me an 8 digit PIN to enter. The reason for this is so that they DO NOT have to ask for personal info such as SSN or DOB. This 8-digit number identifies you as the person they're trying to reach without having divulge personal info. So, if they call you and ask for SSN and DOB, just hang up the phone! I called UHC by calling the number on the back of my insurance card and the representative told me that the number was their coordination of benefits department just calling to check if I had additional forms of insurance. She said she would update my info directly, and I could disregard the phone calls. I have not received another one since then. So, I guess the number is legit, HOWEVER, I think the number is also being used by a phishing scam (you know it is possible to spoof numbers.. there is a computer program that can trick your caller ID into displaying any phone number that is entered into the program). The other comments say that they there was a live operator asking for SSN and DOB, but I was never asked for that personal info. The UHC rep told me that they would NEVER ask for that personal info over the phone, unless YOU call THEM. That is why they give you the 8-digit PIN to enter instead of entering your personal info. So, if someone is calling you and asking to call that number and give them your SSN and DOB, that is a scam!
Please see this post/thread which has more direct experience with this number and scam...

I also had a United Health Care call from this number and was hesitant about replying to the number. The number that shows up on my caller ID as the source of the call is 678-421-4908, from Lilburn, Georgia.
Good advise to just call UHC directly from the numbers listed on their website and or your insurance card, seems this 877-828-5743 is a possible fishing scam.
Good answer! If you call your insurer, you'll have to give personal info to identify yourself to them but never give out personal info to a stranger who calls you regardless of whom they claim to be -- insurer, police, Medicare, etc.
my phone rung 12 times before I answered it. something about united health care. I hang up once it asked for my date of birth and where I lived. It kept calling 19 more times until it finally stopped.I have never had united health care as my medical insurance so it was very odd.I will never answer that caller again.
Yes it is united healthcare's coordination of benefits dept. it is not a scam. They either need info from you or have your number as one of their insured's in error.
