I also received an automated call asking me to call 877-828-5743, and they gave me an 8 digit PIN to enter. The reason for this is so that they DO NOT have to ask for personal info such as SSN or DOB. This 8-digit number identifies you as the person they're trying to reach without having divulge personal info. So, if they call you and ask for SSN and DOB, just hang up the phone! I called UHC by calling the number on the back of my insurance card and the representative told me that the number was their coordination of benefits department just calling to check if I had additional forms of insurance. She said she would update my info directly, and I could disregard the phone calls. I have not received another one since then. So, I guess the number is legit, HOWEVER, I think the number is also being used by a phishing scam (you know it is possible to spoof numbers.. there is a computer program that can trick your caller ID into displaying any phone number that is entered into the program). The other comments say that they there was a live operator asking for SSN and DOB, but I was never asked for that personal info. The UHC rep told me that they would NEVER ask for that personal info over the phone, unless YOU call THEM. That is why they give you the 8-digit PIN to enter instead of entering your personal info. So, if someone is calling you and asking to call that number and give them your SSN and DOB, that is a scam!
There was a time that someone called and said they're working with Medicare. Asked for my mum's Medicare number because they're going to ship some supplies for the diabetic. We didn't get any, actually and my mum was already charged with $200.
Try visiting phonetot.com because the last week, I got a call from "Medicare". I already sent the info over to phonetot's website and I'm waiting for them to email me.
We should try stopping those kind of people who steal from us.
When you receive these calls, please report them to your state Attorney General's office. I do not think that they will act upon the first few calls, but as the calls mount up, they will investigate. I filed a report about 503-902-8479 to AZ Att. Gen. office on their website on Apr. 9 and they wrote a reply on Apr. 11.
this numver is from UHC, its to update Coordination of Benefits. I work for UHC and personally have never heard this number a member called customer service directly gave me the number and i called it. it is legit, but i wouldnt recommend giving personal info if we called you and its a live rep. i got a recording, the voicemail we leave should give you a security code about 8 digits long and thats what you use to identify yourself to the recording.
