We got a call from this number a little before noon last Saturday. I answered and the guy asked to speak to my husband. I lied (knowing it sounded like a solicitor) and said he wasn't home. The guy then said he was from some mail company and had some mail for my husband that needed to be delivered. I knew it sounded odd, but my husband has his own business and a different mail carrier with a special package is not unheard of. So I asked what mail company, again, and I thought he said something like "Express Mail" but I had a hard time understanding him. He proceeded to say he needed to verify my husband's mailing address. Now mind you we just moved into our present house literally a month ago. I had him tell me the address he had, versus me giving it, and he had it correct. Plus he wanted to verify my husband's daytime number - also new and also got correct. This information wasn't enough, though, because he then proceeded to ask when my husband would be available so my husband could agree to the delivery. I told the guy to hold on and got my husband. When my husband got on the phone, though, and said "hello," the caller asked "Is this Dean?" When my husband said "yes," the caller hung up on him. Needless to say, this got me worried because I have heard about scams were they just verify address and name in order to order things or sign up for things in someone else's name. And, with my mind wandering, then wondered if they needed my husband on the line to record his voice saying "yes" to something. Whenever I call the number back it is constantly busy. So, unlike the other posts in reference to this number, the number never actually rings for me and the guy said he was from a mail company, not a credit company. Needless, to say I am a bit (probably actually quite) concerned, so if anyone knows something else or what I can do, please share. Thanks.
A man's voice with a strong east Indian accent asks for a name you can not understand.
Then he gives a reference number to nothing I know of.
When I try to file a complaint with the federal Do Not Call list they refuse it!
The usual useless federal bureacracy...
WARNING!! If you have received calls from this number, call your State's Attorney immediately. The call is from a company by the name of Bay Area Credit, LLC @ 1000 Abernathy Road, Building #400, Suite #165, Atlanta, GA, 30328. This number shows on caller ID as from Marrietta, GA. I have been told by friends that they are a collection agency attempting to collect accounts fraudulently from Providian Bank, which was purchased by Washington Mutual in early 2006. Washington Mutual, in turn, was purchased just last year from JP Morgan Chase. I received a call from them trying to collect a debt from Providian Bank. I have NEVER had a Providian Visa account. Calls to Chase was answered by someone who must be an alien from another planet, who could barely speak the English language and, therefore, proved completely useless. Also beware that if you have an unpublished phone number from Comcast, your information is being provided and/or sold to thousands of companies. I was informed by this collection agency, after much argument, I might add, that Comcast provided my unlisted & unpublished phone number. (Being on the Federal "Do Not Call" list is a complete waste of time.) Don't put up with this garbage!! Call your state's attorney!!!
I keep receiving calls from this number. The caller ID says "Marietta, GA." The only thing I can think of is that I am behind on paying my Aspire Visa card. Their address is: POB 105555, Atlanta, GA 30348-5555. I found if you request a debt collector to cease communication, in writing, they have to stop harrassing you with their attempts to collect that debtt. American Express has my cell phone number for an individual I do not know. This must be an old cell number for someone and these people keep calling. I answered the phone and have called and reported that this phone number was not for the individual they were calling for. The calls stopped for about 2 months and they have started up again. I don't have American Express, I am not late on any of my payments for any debt owed and I want these calls to STOP!
