Mike, the caller is a fake debt collector calling from overseas, usually coming from India or Pakistan. These calls have been a problem for several years. The FBI and law enforcement are fully aware of them and where they are but they are untouchable by US Law Enforcement.. There are diplomatic protocol issues in trying to shut down and bring to justice foreign criminals who are safely cuddled in the arms of an uncooperative government that considers them petty thieves and Americans free game for them.
'Has anyone reported this?'.
Of course!. It has been reported hundreds of times, even daily, over the past couple of years. But the plain facts are that people will just have to be more proactive in protecting themselves. At this time, the US law enforcement is stalemated by other governments.
OMG!!! I just got the same call. When I called back I got a recording saying that the person was unavailable and the voicemail box was full ti try again later. I was freaked out because I know i didn't do anything that would have got me into legal trouble. So glad I checked into it.
Yup just got one, this is the 2nd time in 12 months.
Clearly a scam but the real question - why the FBI or police are not doing anything to shut these guys down?
I mean phone numbers are traceable?
And this is very disturbing.
Maybe they can get a call - this is the FBI and we are going to ARREST YOU for this scam.
But the FBI won't call they will just do it!
I just got my 2nd call from this number in the past couple months. The first time I called back and it said the voicemailbox was full. This time though I was able to leave a message and I told them that I would be suing them if they call back. So here's to actually hoping they call me again.
