If they were a legitimate compant they would have been more than happy to accept a check over the phone. All collection agencies as of June 1992 are required by federal law to have the technological stature to accept payment via any means over the phone. The reason they did not want you to mail them a check is because they would have to come up with an address which would increase their crime to mail fraud which carries a much greater penalty. A Federal Felony. Even if you did have a bill from a prior company, any REAL collection agency would have been happy to accept your payment no matter how you wished to send it. I hope your credit hasn't been affected by this scam.
Very annoying people... kept calling my number for someone else, even though I had told them repeatedly they had the wrong person... As far as I am aware, according to PA Collection Laws, using a false name, or misleading representation ( there is NO Mr. White, Green or any other color that works for the company ) is illegal...

I have received several messages on my answering machine from this company for a person that I've never heard of. Tonight, I made of the mistake of answering the phone when they called and the woman was extremely rude. She wouldn't believe me when I told her she had the wrong number and that I have never heard of the person she was looking for. She said "Well, we're just going to keep calling because we spoke to so-and-so at this number on March something." I told her she didn't because I've had the phone number for 5 years, and I'm the only one living here. Finally the witch hung up.
This number has been calling me for months. They usually call when I'm at work. For the longest time it had a computer saying "Please call us back regarding an urgent matter". Now they called saying call back Mr. Yaun(?) regarding my account with my bank" They know the name of my bank!! I don't owe the bank anything, everything is up to date or has money in it. I'd really like to know what other information they have. They sure the hell won't get any more information from me. They are messing with the wrong B****. I used to work for the bank, and there are none in PA and their collection agency isn't either. I can't wait to actually talk to them now.
