Received a call from this # Monday 7/20/15. I answered, spoke to someone who said they were with SS.
Asked to speak to________and said my name.
After our conversation I looked on this site and decided it was 50/50 whether it was a scam or not.
After saying my name she said that I had been under paid and I would be receiving the difference sent to my bank.
I said that's nice. How much.
She said she could not tell me without more information.
I said that I did not want to give out any information.
She said OK.
I asked when I would receive the money, she said 3 to 5 days.
I said thanks & goodbye, she replied goodbye.
Just checked my bank account and was so caught by surprise I said Holy S****!!.
I have a deposit of 5 figures from SS in my account.
This is not, repeat, not a scam.

Who do you think you're fooling "Rick".  It is a scam.

You mean to tell us someone at SS just called you up and said you're going to get a check?  Why would they do that?  I mean why would they tell you in advance?  Makes no sense at all.   If you are entitled to some sort of refund, you simply get a check with a cover explaining the purpose of the check. That's how it works.  Usually.  Nobody calls you in advance and lets you know.

Sorry.  I'm with the Wolfman.  This looks like some sort of white collar gang going around trying to legitimatize a  scam meant to steal information from  the elderly.  For that matter, anyone  who might be on some form of SS.

In other words, the vulnerable.

I don't like it.  I gawddam don't like it.  I'm on SS and Medicare and I really don't like it!

Anyway, "Rick", if this is a scam (and I think it is)  you guys are playing with fire.  You know that don't you?

You aware that there's a US  Attorney in Queens?  Mr Kelly T. Currie.   That's his name.  He'll   be more than happy to take your scam down.  And if he does, then you'll go down with the scam.

Hard.

Think about it.....

I have direct deposit and that is almost a verbatim report of the conversation.
You can tell Mr. Kelly T. Currie to contact me and I will show him the bank statement.
If they have contacted you, go to your local SS office & verify in person.

I received a call, unanswered since I didn't recognize the #. Looked here, several mentions of it being Social Security. I applied for SS 3 days ago, so called back #, they ID'd as SS and asked me to call an 866 #. It was legit, they spoke of my applying and advised me of things I needed to know about it. However, if I hadn't applied for SS, I would have ignored it as I do with all the unknowns I receive.
