It must be ISIS or ISOL, [***]  or perhaps even Bin Laden back from the dead. It could be Joe Biden mis-dialing or even one of the handy dandy government seniors who misfire their high-powered hunting rifels aiming at the wrong target (or *are* they ?)  nailing one another instead of their  intended , innocent, prey. Who knows.   I bought a new phone system bc I couldn't take the constant disruption of unending ringing.  The system (4/2015) has 250 slots to block indiv. numbers but it also  includes the ability to block entire ranges of numbers such as area codes.  But these idiots find a way around it.  I don't know why they bother with me - I haven't answered the phone in a decade (which annoys everyone I *do* want to call to no end).   I'm interested in your suggestions - most appreciated. Thanks - I'll be checking out your ideas asap.

That's awful I feel terrible for the poor woman- and we think *we've* got problems. Gladys will  probably never answer her phone again if one of the lovely angry people reporting from this page gives her a piece of their mind w/out asking her who she is first...  I wonder if they call her  and if so what shows up on her caller ID - her own name ?

This is what I don't understand about these calls and callers:  why do they call if they don't want to speak to someone ?  You'd think they'd talk to anyone who answers or would leave a message on a machine requesting a call back.   How would one run a successful scam if they loose their nerve every other time they reach a machine or a live person ?  Don't they have "pimps" working around them, listening in to make sure they do what they're paid  $.04 an hour to do ?

Here's your answer in two parts:
(1) Not all scams are to phone & talk to you. In some cases they want you to phone back. Think the '2-ring Caribbean scam'. Phone rings just long enough to trigger the caller ID. You phone back & get sky high international charges.
(2) Some scammers are just in it to compile lists of good working phone numbers. These are sold to other scammers for between $5 & $7. U.S. a sheet. Imagine how many calls a voip based system can make in a day & a computer logging good & bad numbers.
