Person with thick accent claims to be from the U.S. Treasury and asks about an issue with taxes (for me, it was 2010 tax year). She gave a name and badge number. When I stated I had not been contacted about this matter, she asked why I was lying to an officer of the government. She then stated the records show I was contacted by mail twice about the issue. When I asked about the address to which the notices were sent, she hung up.
Caller will claim to be a representative from the IRS, and request personal information. When you ask him for more information, he will threaten you with a federal indictment.
Same as previous posts. Caller said he was with US Treasury, had thick foreign accent, I told him I would report him to IRS, then told him goodbye, he then said "ok, then get arrested!"
a pre recorded call claiming to be from the treasury dept telling me to call back the number that called me or a warrant will be issued for my arrest. For fun, I called the number back. Gave a fake name. Said my taxes were filed incorrectly and it needs to be resolved or a warrant will be issued for my arrest. She asked me (addressing me by the fake name I provided) if I knew how much I owed. I said no and she came up with the number of over $29k. She said if I hang up the phone without paying, a warrant will be issued for my arrest and police will come to my house. But she can take my payment over the phone. I asked her what her ID number was. She said 170. That's not a valid ID number. I then called her out and said I didn't believe it And called her a scammer. She said she wasn't a scammer then told me to shut up and hung up the phone. The IRS will only correspond with you via mail. And they do not take payment over the phone. This woman had a thick Indian accent and you could hear a bunch of other people with thick Indian accents in the background running the same scam. Don't fall for it.
