Person with thick accent claims to be from the U.S. Treasury and asks about an issue with taxes (for me, it was 2010 tax year). She gave a name and badge number. When I stated I had not been contacted about this matter, she asked why I was lying to an officer of the government. She then stated the records show I was contacted by mail twice about the issue. When I asked about the address to which the notices were sent, she hung up.
No message left, but apparently now on the IRS scammer do call list as my home number was called a few days ago and my mobile number 3 times in less than a week. Never got these calls before. This number did not answer when called back using *67 prefix. But did play some music and then recording said to call back later or leave a message. I played "Mary had a little lamb" for them via touch tones. Hope they appreciated that.
Calls and claims we owe the Treasury Dept. and that the Tax Dept. has sent our account to them to collect it, or they will have the District Court issue a summons to appear in court. This person cannot tell me what account it is for and I asked for his name and badge # as he said he was Officer Brian Harris. This person has a thick accent and is either Indian, Pakistani, Middle Eastern, or African, but he is not a person who would be named Brian Harris. I told him I would call the Treasury Dept and check it out.
