I forgot to mention, they gain access by fooling you into allowing them remote access to your computer, I am a WESTERN UNION AGENT, and WESTERN UNION WILL NEVER CALL YOU AND ASK YOU TO DO ANYTHING!!!! REMEMBER THAT!
It is a scam when you have never used WU and WU has no idea why anyone would call you. It is also a scam when they give you a call back number on the voice mail that WU doesn't own.
I was called from New Jersey, 732-694-2151. The caller (heavy Filipino accent), stated that she was from Western Union Compliance. I gave her my name and address. She asked for the last 4 digits of my driver's license. At that point, I became suspicious and said that I would call Western Union myself before giving out any more information.
She gave me another phone number (1-800-773-7948) and a case ID number. I went to Western Union's website, called the fraud support line, gave them that phone number and the story. I was told that this number does NOT belong to Western Union and the phone call is a scam.
Do NOT give out information to a caller from this phone number! If you have done so, call your bank immediately for guidance. (you are likely going to be closing your bank account and opening a new one).
