I got a call from them today saying that they had a private serious legal matter to discuss with me and that I had to call by 5pm. I did not call them back. They then called about 5 more times, I never answered
I got another call yesterday July 12, Again they use my maiden name the one before I got married and that was almost 10 years ago. There is NOTHING on my credit report, and I have not recieved anything in the mail. So obviously if they have the phone number, they have the address.This guy said he was a "Manager" and wanted me to call and "Discuss" how i am going to "Handle" this situation, and that he didn't want to take any "Actions" against me until we "Discuss" this. For one thing, I know this has been paid off. But for the life of me, I can not find anything because they made us do a Western union thing and this had been years ago. I know this was the same company.Another thing is my answering machine is one of those Robot people....So it doesn't say who they are calling, and my number is unlisted, and not in the last name they are calling about. It is in my husbands name. These threats are horrid. And I would like to ask anyone on here to reply to me....on this question
HAS ANYONE THAT IS RECIEVING THESE PHONE CALLS EVER RECIEVED ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE IN THE MAIL? DON'T THEY HAVE TO SEND SOMETHING IN THE MAIL? I DIDN'T THINK THEY COULD JUST SUE YOU OVER THE PHONE PLEASE SOMEONE LET ME KNOW WHAT ENDED UP HAPPENING. THANKS PRINCESS.
Princess: yes, in order to be sued you must receive a notice in the mail of the suit that was filed which will be accompanied by a initial hearing date. The court papers will indicate the lawyer/lawfirm dealing with your case. This will also be the person(s) you need to contact in order to settle out of court. This is the reccomended procedure as lawyers (even if they are hired by collection idiots)are mich more reasonable and will happily investigate further or negotiate the debt.
I'm so glad I found this site!! I looked up some numbers that were calling me but not leaving messages. I even had one call me really late at night and then demand that I pay them right away! I told them It Was Too Late to call- I've actually won two lawsuits against debt collectors for violating it the time ordinance thing. It's been around for a long time, you'd think they would know better! If they are harassing you, it's ILLEGAL! If they tell anyone besides you or your wife/husband about the debt, it's ILLEGAL!! If they are really nasty with you (swearing!), that's against the law too! Don't let the debt collectors harass you, know what they can do and what they can't. I just received a message from this Phone Number today 770-234-0101 the company name is NRC. They called and left a message in my Co workers voicemail,saying someone filled a complaint against me. I have no idea what this is about.
