I received a phone call from this number today and they claimed they were from the Microsoft Corporation. They said the "Microsoft Servers" had reported several critical errors on my computer and they were calling to notify me. I'm a PC Technician of 10 years and immediately my red flags went up. When they requested that I turn on my computer to help me fix the problem I agreed but informed them that I absolutely would not give them any numbers or passwords from my machine. They abruptly hung up on me.
I called the number back and in the background I heard other cold callers repeating the exact same things the caller was telling me. This is obviously a scam. I have no idea if anything can be done about it but I hope this makes people more aware.
I received a call on 9/6/13 at 9:42am, CDT, from someone with an Indian accent identifying them self as "Microsoft Technical Support," stating that they "had received several error reports from my computer on their monitoring software indicating that my computer was about to crash, and he wanted me to go to my computer so that he could guide me through a "fix."
I asked for his number, so that I could call back to verify the source of the call. He repeated the urgency of the matter, but refused to give me his number. I asked for it again, and he hung up.
I checked my caller ID and found the number was 786-375-9110. I called this number and the same person with an Indian accent answered, as being "Microsoft Technical Support."
I entered the number into a Google Search and found numerous sites and links of complaints and reports of phone abuse, including threats.
I received a call from some one name Andrew stating that they worked for Anderson Law Firm. He stated that I had received a pay day loan and had failed to pay. He stated that Court papers were being filed and the sheriffs office will be out in a couple of day to serve papers unless I settled the matter today. I ask them who the pay day loan was from and when was the money deposited in my account. He would not give me the information. When I told them that I had not applied for any pay day loans and that my lawer would be contacting them, they hung up. I tried to call them back and it would ring 3 or 4 time then I would get a busy signal. The individual had an Indian accent.
My wife has been getting the same calls other # that they use are 786-220-3387, they want you to send a western union or money gram immediately or you will be arrested. No collection agency can say this. There is a $1000 fine for every offence. The name they want you to send the $$ to is Sydney Jackson in New Orleans, LA 70131. The Indian accented person I spoke to claimed his name was "Brian Hunt" as if.
