Asking for money because of a law sue against me and if I dont provided him with a payment he will file a criminal charge against me and I would be arrested for it.
Their number is from New York if you still need to know. I'm going to call the New York State Police Department and give them the number. Hopefully this will stop them from what's called a terror threat to scare people.
i called back and kept telling them to send the cops to my house right know. and he told me if i had the balls to call back then call back and he hung up. of course me being guy i had the balls to call back and it went straight to message... haha
I got this call a few days ago. Man with heavy Indian accent. I called the police department he said they would send the criminal sopena to and I was told it is a scam and that CA does not accept sopenas for out of state for anything but homicide and since I have never been to New York since that is where the number lists from I should not worry about iit. I want to know how these [***] got my married name and my cell phone number and why these scams keep coming up? Where are the Feds and why can't they stop this crap?
Callers are hard core Indian and Pakistani scammer/extortinoists. They spoof existing law firms and if necessary make one up. They spout a lot of legal mumbo-jumbo that has no relation to how the justice system works in the US. Subpoenas are only issued where there is an ongoing judicial or administrative or legislative procedure or case going on. If you were the target of any such subpoena you would already be aware of it by notice from the governmental body or private attorney involved. You'd have a paper trail. YOU would NOT be first informed of a subpoena by a threatening cold-call.
In any event there's no way to stop these calls from being initiated. The callers ignore US law and local governments do little. Invest in a call blocker and do not pick up on call numbers you do not recognize. In most cases the scammers buy and sell leads. A lead can cost about 3 to 5 dollars per name. Someone has sold your personal information to these scammers. Or, it could be simply random dialing.
