Multiple missed calls over the course of the last week or two according to caller id -- no messages left. Just happened to be home when they called today. Asked to speak to me (by first name only) and demanded that I confirm if I was Helen. Refused to do so until she (the caller) identified herself, the company she was calling from & the reason for the call. She refused to do so until I confirmed I was Helen, I refused......round & round & round. Finally said "It appears we are at a stalemate. I would suggest you not call this number again unless you wish to invite legal action." and hung up on her.
Yes, this number is Portfolio Recovery trying to collect on a debt that is beyond the statue of limitations. They filed a lawsuit against me but my attorney advised me not to speak with them because we'll have our day in court. PR is a three trick pony, they 1) try to get you to make arrangements to pay a portion of the debt (which they profit because they buy these debts for pennies on the dollar), 2) try to reset the timer on your debt (starting with confirmation or your acknowledgement of the debt - often they have no documentation that would hold up in court), 3) use scare tactics (law suit) and win a default judgment cause they're hoping that you do not show up. Perhaps I do still owe the money to the originater of the loan but I feel I paid for that when they weren't willing to work with me and my credit was ruined, at the same time enduring countless calls and being harassed over the years. Screw PR and their BS.
Wrong! What your experiencing is a increase of criminals, illegal callers and scam operations. The DNC does not apply to debt collections, they fall under the FCRA/FDCPA/TCPA laws. Nor does it apply to charity, Political or for some survey's.
The DNC is not a call blocker either and can not protect you from the scammers, illegal callers, or from foreign country criminals and illegal callers. Criminals don't obey laws..
