Lady named Crystal from the "Office of CRA" and referencing a certain number. Said she didn't know if I was aware of the situation but she needed me or my representative to call her back immediately. Gave call-back # 877-704-9452. Called on my cell. When I googled "Office of CRA" I found a bunch of messages with a similar phone number, except for the last digit. Everyone says they got the same kind of message. Some say the person was threatening & had their SSN. I figured it was a bill-collector & I should call them, but now I wonder if it's not a scam.
I got a call form 864-569-0719 this AM. "Jessica" asked for "Steven Brown". For some reason I get calls on a regular basis for someone I knew five years ago and I still do not know how they got my number. This time I have no idea who this person is so I asked to speak to her supervisor. "Richard Scott" got on the line and said they were a collection agency. I said we were on the "do not call " list and he promptly shot back that they did not have to abide by the list because they were a collection agency. I replied that even though I asked my number be removed from their list, I received several of these calls a month and was tired of getting them. He then said, and this is a classic, "Just change your phone number!" I then asked him if I were to get his home phone number and started calling him every day, would he change his number? He said probably he would not. So I said this was not a solution. He then got angry and started interrupting when I spoke saying that he had given me a solution and that was it. I then asked again to be removed from his list and he said he would. I then asked if I would get another call from them and he said no but it would take 24 hours to be in the system. I then said, "Is it for sure that I would not get another call from them?' He hung up.
I understand finding people who owe money and are trying to "disappear" is difficult, however, the price to be paid should not be at the expense of people like me and you. The ability of collection agencies to by-pass the "do not call" list should come with the responsibility to not abuse this privilege. Continuing calls from collection agencies to phone numbers who are on the "do not call" list that have been verified not to be the person who they are tracking down should not be allowed. This is plain and simple harassment and they should be penalized for it. For starters, they should be required to give legitimate contact information including the corporate headquarters' address, the manager's personal phone contact and some official verification that they will not call your number again.
PS When they say the call is being recorded, you immediately respond, "I am recording this call, also."
I got a call from one woman she was very friendly trying to explain what the situation was about. Then the call gets disconnected so I call back thinking it was important and some pathetic excuse for a human being proceeds to tell me that they are filing a 1099 against me with the IRS. I asked what exactly this is regarding? She tells the company name and that it's regarding a debt of some sort. I say well I don't know the name of that company. She had the audacity to call me a liar and yell at me. I asked for a supervisor and she said she was the supervisor. Bull****! I told her wait a minute you don't even know me and you can't talk to me like. She hung up on me! So what was the point of them contacting me?
I got a call but they never left a msg.. I tried to call the number back and it said it was no longer in service so I am assuming that this was a scam!!
I got a call from this CRA place too. I asked what it was regarding when they asked for 'Gee-Anne', (not me) and then told her there was no one by that name at this number. She proceeds to argue with me, says 'then why did you ask what it's regarding? Why didn't you just say 'wrong number?' I said that sometimes we get calls for ones who used to have our number, but there was no one by that name at this number. she AGAIN starts arguing with me, saying 'but you didn't say wrong number...' She was rude, and combatant. I hung up, but was worried that it was something legit, but after I Googled the number and found this site, and read the other experiences, I know I don't have to worry. These people are at best just mean, and at worst illegal or borderline illegal. Horrible!!
