Received a message from a Mr. Davis from the Fraud Division did not say the name of the Company he ask me call him back immediately or talk to one of his representatives about the paperwork he send me because I or my attorney did not repsond not sure what they want -- but not returning any calls until I find more out about this. Received the same message last week from a number of 872-484-0004
Yes, it's a debt collection scam. Being in ordinary civil debt is NOT a crime and you cannot be prosecuted for it. THis is just an attempt to scare money out of you. No debt collector has anything to do with the criminal justice system and has no influence on it at all.
Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a dime until the debt is validated
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.
If they are bothering you, report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) The same goes for endless telephone harassment
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.
You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because, being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking), the only thing they understand.
Received a telephone call from a Mr. Davis-Fraud Division 872-395-5355 stating that I haven't responded to a letter sent to me and my attorney. I am not calling back because I have no idea what or who this is.
These mother fuc---- called me today at 7:30 a.m.. I called back and I asked this lady why you are calling me. She told me that there was paperwork sent to my house on May 22nd and someone had signed the paperwork. Are you aware that this a Sunday? Then she popped an attitude with me. You need to mess with these scammers and talk trash with them. You AREN'T a criminal and no one will come and arrest you. The IRS and State incomes taxes will sent you a letter if there is a problem with your taxes. As soon as you received these letters you call the numbers on the letter and they set up a payment plan or you make a payment over the phone. I just went thru this
a couple months ago. In closing don't listen to these freak shows. I started acting like these scammers and told them that the
popo (police) were on the way and they needed to get a bag packed becasue you are going to arrested. The lady hung up on me.
This is Mr. Davis from the Fraud Division. Please hold on while one of our agents informs you of charges against you before they are turned over to the State. The call is from Chicago, IL
