Who called from 9712089984

I am in Surrey, BC and I just got a call from 971-208-9984. I listened to a recorded message that I had been selected for a political survey and then I hung up. I hang up now on all callers claiming they are political parties or worthy charities. I do not understand why these scammers can do their business so freely in our society..

The is the notorious Gene Martin Phone Phishing Expedition which has been rife for the last year or two.

Them: ring ring
Me: pick up phone and say nothing
Them: <after about 5 seconds> Hello???
Me: Yes
Them: Can I speak to Gene Martin1021022711
Me: Sure <followed by silence>
Them: Gene?
Me: Nope
Them: Can I speak to Gene Martin?
Me: Sure, you can speak to him all you want, it's just that this isn't his [***] phone number. <slam>

A few months ago the same voice, different phone number in caller id, wanted to speak to "Gene" too. I asked whether they were the phishing/insurance scammers from Arlington VA, and they hung up so fast I thought my phone was going to jump off the desk.

I got a call from this scam source.

The Canadian National Do Not Call list is powerless to stop these scam calls masquerading as political surveys.  Total waste of taxpayer money establishing such a Registry.

got a call from 971-208-9984. did not answer and they left no message. found it was a scam by researching the number.
