i got a call from this number on 2/2/08 and i didn't answer but about an hour later i got a call from the county jail and my boyfriend was in custody. so i know for sure that is not a scam, someone you know is in jail.
father-in-law told me he got a call from this #..said it showed up on his caller id as a Texas#..i decided to google the phone# and got a bunch of different results..many of which were focused on a scam..i called the # and an automated voice says "welcome to you voicemail service..please press 1 for english"..i just hung up. Dont know what to make of this #..but it seems that it should definitely be reported!
We received a call yesterday and it was from someone we know and wanted to talk to - an immigration detainee. However, due to the call being made to a cell phone and the system they have, we were unable to speak to the person.
I was assuming from the phone number that he was in Texas, but from reading this, it sounds like maybe calls come from various locations using this same number. (We had thought he was being detained in Georgia, but are not sure.
These calls are through a billing service for detainees in the local/county/state jail. Because Phone companies have had so many problems with people running up high bills w/ collect calls & not paying them they now require you to set up an account for you to use & you must prepay them. I know this for a fact because my husband is locked up in the county jail & all his calls come from this # or one like it. It's not a scam it is just what they require to protect them from collect calls.
