Most of these guys doing this are in call centers (boiler rooms) in foreign country's.. without that country's co-operation its a endless case. Someplace along the line it does happen!
You can get a call blocking device or a phone, but a whistle would give em a blast also!
Please do file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..
Just received a call from this guy. Same description as others - heavy Indian accent saying he was with Windows department (not Microsoft). Said my computer was sending out information and might have a virus or malware. Asked me to press the Windows Key + R. I told him I have a Mac and he hung up. I did a search for this type of scam and it is pretty widespread and organized. There is a very funny video on YouTube where a guy takes one of these phone scammers for a ride.
I know better, but I did it. Said they were from Microsoft. The man did not speak good english at all,and he went on and on, I thought Microsoft should know, befor I knew it he had total control of my pc. It cost me 100.00 dollars. It's a pc cleaner. Ccleaner, Piriform ltd. I hope they get busted.
This happened to a friend of mine. They tell you they fixed your computer and ask for money. If you don't agree to give them money, they actually do put a virus on your PC. She had to send it away and is having it repaired.
Same as above - called me on July 12, 2013 and said he was from Microsoft Technical Support. Said I had very bad virus on my computer and wanted me to start pushing buttons. Had a very heavy Indian accent. I had already Googled the number and seen the scam reports, so I told him to never call again, at which point he started swearing at me. I did call my police dept and the dispatcher told me that no crime had been committed since I didn't do what he wanted, but if I had told him to never call back, and if he did, I could sue them for harrassment.
He called again today, August 30, 2013. Same accent, said he was with Windows Technical Support, and the same deal with viruses, and still wanting me to go into my computer and push buttons and he would fix it. After playing him for a bit, I finally told him that I had previously told them to never call back and now I was calling the police dept and suing them. He said, go ahead and call the police and I will talk to them. I told him 3 times to never call back. He insisted several times that I give him info from my computer. I did hang up on him and called the police, they did come out, and they are checking into what they can find. The dispatcher today also said she had another call come in about this same scam earlier in the day.
